Celts invaded and settled in the UK from the continent. By the end of the first century Celtic tongue was the dominant of the languages spoke. This is where the river derived its name the "Wear". It is believed the meaning to be "Water" or "River" also recently it is thought to be "bend" or "curve" due to the twisting of the river.

But to be honest i don't think any body really knows where it came from.

But in the year 43 the romans invaded the uk.
